Learn to typing really 100 words per minute fast.

I spent a lot of time improving my typing speed by doing the wrong thing. After much experimentation and very dead ends, I found several methods to continuously increase my typing speed to 5 wpm at once. Repeating this procedure allowed me to exceed 100 wpm, so I will share my methods and my mistakes to avoid repeating them.

Although it may appear inaccessible at the beginning, if you can touch each finger twice a second, you can pass 100 wpm using all your fingers. When you consider the frequency of letters in English and type to count the fingers needed to type any letter, 100 wpm typing‌ requires considerable slower individual finger movement. All the necessary techniques are needed to reduce the mental overhead. To learn the tips of fast typing below, first of all check you typing speed at wpmtest to know your level. Considering this you will b able to plan better time table to improve your typing skill.

It started with situations where I failed to improve my typing speed from 50 to 100 wpm during the calendar year. I tortured my hands for 2 hours every day but lost the game. My main mistake was that I had to practice for many hours to achieve this goal, but it turned out that training methods are very important for pure learning.

There are 3 sections in this article.

Motivating factors

You should improve your typing speed for three main reasons:
  1. Communication Overhead: Most jobs have some type of communication and it increases as the career progresses. As a Senior Software Engineer, in addition to my regular responsibilities, I spend a lot of time on proposals, design documents, training materials, best practices, and responding to peers. Typing faster can have a significant productivity effect on these other activities.
  2. Cognitive load: Most adults read 250 words per minute and speak 120 words per minute so our thinking process is at least faster. Regular typing behavior disrupts our thought process because it is much more deliberate than an automatic subconscious action. We go back and forth between thinking about the real problem to think about typing and it interrupts our flow. Reducing the cognitive burden provides greater mental clarity and helps us focus on the problem without typing.
  3. Distance work: The industry is moving towards a more remote situation as a result of the coronavirus epidemic. This tendency to increase typing by writing a message is much more convenient than trying to find a timeline for a call.

We typically type 80% of our top speed, so add the extra 25% when you think of the speed you can imagine, the target speed in typing tests to be ideal for your profession.

What I Did Wrong

I practiced as much as possible to ignore the signs of muscle fatigue for a long time and hit the painful dead end. I had carpal tunnel and it put my career in jeopardy. Inflammation in the carpal tunnel area is caused by pressure on the nerves in the wrist. It is important to end tasks that cause discomfort to avoid long-term effects.

I took these 3 steps to reverse the effects and I am happy that all the symptoms completely disappeared 6 years ago:

1. Use mechanical keyboards

I switched to the mechanical keyboard because my hands get tired while typing on the rubber-lined keyboard because the tap has the power needed to press quickly. Mechanical keyboards are very sensitive so I can type all day without fatigue.
Mechanical keyboards come with a variety of switches with some variants ready for gaming. Cherry makes the most stable switches in the industry and their MX Brown switches offer a good balance between tactile sensitivity, activation power, and noise.
Note that mechanical keyboards make a clocking noise as soon as they touch the base of the plastic keyboard. I recommend installing a rubber O-ring under each funnel so it does not distract colleagues. Installing O-Rings also works well on your joints, and some companies, such as WASD O-Rings, offer pre-installed mechanical keyboards.

2. Maintain proper posture and keyboard angle

Proper posture is important because minor discomforts will increase over time.
Keep the keyboard flat without raising your back and keep your wrists elevated to reduce pressure on the back of your hands. Also, use the wrist rest to keep your wrists very low while resting your wrists.

I recommend investing in an office chair that has good support with the wrist.

3.Use Colemak.

Although there was no need to type fast, I pulled all the stops and switched to the Colemak keyboard. The Colemak is much more efficient than the QWERTY and far more accurate than the Dvorak. Colemak is very easy to learn because it only resets 17 keys. Most keys and shortcuts are similar to QWERTY and moved simple letters to HomeRock to reduce finger movements.
QWERTY requires an average of twice as many finger journeys as Colemak. Reduced travel I seemed to be stopping halfway because I was in the habit of doing more work for a single output.
I'm glad I became Colemak because the return on that one-time investment will last forever. However, most people use QWERTY, so this change is not practical if you need to use a shared environment.

How to exceed 100 wpm?

Beginning with basic methods built with sophistication, the principles I have used over 100 WPM are:

1.Make sure you measure your progress frequently.

  • Practice typing tests regularly and monitor your development for speed and accuracy.
  • If you start making mistakes, do not restart the test. It is important to keep track of your progress as these techniques can improve your accuracy. Mistakes are a natural part of typing so we want to get into the habit of typing correctly and be able to fix mistakes quickly.
  • I suggest alternating between and with a monkey type configured for 10 seconds of trial.

2. Make small, steady progress

  • Focus on slow and methods because it will speed up your practice and lead you to higher speeds.
  • Do not rush through all the methods at once. Bookmark this page and proceed to the next step only after you have mastered the current step.
  • Do not distort while typing. If you feel stressed while typing the test, you are running too much.
  • Stay calm and relaxed. I achieved my fast pace in a calm state, which surprised me because I didn’t feel like I was working hard.

3. Keep sessions brief and frequent.

  • Muscle building requires repeated learning. Briefly change long training sessions.
  • It is better to practice for 15 minutes a day than to practice for 2 hours on weekends. Short sessions also make it easier to squeeze them into your schedule and make them a habit.
  • Do not practice too much. Limit the session to a maximum of 20 minutes, not to exceed 2 sessions per day.

 4. Pressing the key

  • Type with quick taps instead of pressing keys.
  • Do not slow down the power-hit key, aim for a fast light tap.
  • Practice double-tapping on each finger to get into the quick light tap habit.

 5.Position of the fingers

  • Use the right finger for each letter. In the picture above, each color is struck with a single finger.
  • Your index finger should be on the F&J keys. The other fingers should rest near your index finger. This is a house row.
  • Use both hands when making letters uppercase. To hold the shift key, press the letter with one hand, using the pinky with the other hand.
  • Touch the space bar using the thumb of your dominant hand.

6. Getting over mistakes

  • First, for accuracy, errors have a big impact on speed because they prevent typing flow.
  • Do not use the backspace key too often. Instead, delete the entire word using Ctrl + Backspace (or Option + Backspace on Mac).
  • If you only need to fix one character, still fix the whole word with Ctrl + Backspace. It becomes a habit to type the word correctly at once and re-apply the sequence of errors that led to this error. It's faster because you do not have to worry about the details of the mistake to make it easier to stay in the fast typing stream.

7. Change between words

  • Reset your placement by moving your fingers back to the home row before beginning the next word. It is essential to reach high speed so that the same pose is required before the word to type the word.
  • Some words will stretch you so try to move each finger back to the home rock after each keyboard, but only when it is convenient to do so before starting the next word.
  • Resetting your position may seem like an extra step at first but it turns into muscle memory so that you forget what you are doing after a while.

8. Psychological model

  • Remember the offset relative to each finger from its resting position in the row of the house.
  • Here are some examples of mental models using QWERTY layout. Put your fingers on the home roll and look at the keyboard for each of these examples:
f = left index finger (no offset)
h = left index finger to the left (note left relative offset)
r = left index finger
y = right index finger up left
Single quote = true pinky right
Coma = right middle finger
b = left index finger down-right
0 = right pinky up 2
5 = left index finger 2, right
  • Practice air typing. Close your eyes and move your fingers to the air typing walk using the relative offset mental model.

9. Make sure you re-enforce mental patterns to typing.

  • Typing Trainer is the best way to create your mental pattern because it introduces two characters at once.
  • When focusing on 2 keys, do not move your fingers on those keys, instead move your fingers back into the house row after each funnel. The only exception is when the same character is typed twice in a row.
  • After trying dozens of trainers (paid and free), my favorite is the free tutorial at

10. Avoid looking at the keyboard.

  • Looking at the keyboard can lead to bad habits that limit your ability. Typing slowly without looking will speed up your practice.
  • To find the relative offset of the keyboard when you are stuck, delete the entire word and type again without looking.
  • When you lose your place on the keyboard, find the bumps on the F and J keys and reset your fingers on the home line without looking.

 11. Utilize Keybr

  • is a free educational tool that focuses on your weaknesses. This is the best tool to increase your speed and accuracy in the shortest time possible.
  • The keybr monitors the speed of each key and memorizes words to focus on your slow key and corrects muscle memory.
  • Using the keyboard can be frustrating in the first few days as it works to correct your bad habits. The lessons enter into scenes you expect to be much slower than usual.
  • Navigate to your Keybra profile and see each person's key speed in the Key Typing Speed section. Use the keybr until you reach the Speed Plateau.

12. Master the basics before moving on

Learn the techniques presented so far and use each of them before proceeding. The methods before this step are advanced and should only be tried after you have met these requirements:

  • You type each key with the right finger.
  • Type without you seeing the keyboard.
  • Before you start the next word, you return your fingers to the home rock.
  • Your accuracy is at least 95%. If your accuracy is low, slow down and increase your accuracy with the keys because accuracy is very important before proceeding.
  • Your personal key speed has stopped growing over the past few days at Keybr.

13.For each word, change your pace.

  • Typing all the words at the same speed will limit you to the lowest common denominator.
  • Speed slowly for difficult words, speed for easy words, and the rest at normal speed. Eventually, more words will feel lighter, and repeated speed-ups will boost your rhythm, thereby increasing your speed.

 14. When typing a word, search for the next word.

  • It's nice to see this word when you learn to type, but when you reach high speed, it becomes an obstacle in your progress.
  • You must search for the next word when typing the current word. Look for the next two words when the next word is short.
  • The next word must be paused and processed before typing to see the current word. It also creates a reaction loop, where we verify a character one at a time, so we get ide with the roof at its speed due to its reaction time.

15.Type noise tempo needs to be reset.

  • We build a mental movement based on the sound of the keys and it creates a mental barrier that binds us to the current speed.
  • Hold the headphones once and type for 5 to 10 minutes Pair your speed without your current speed.

16. Use the roll to type.

  • Press 4 fingers on your desk on a roll with a boring rhythm. Notice that you are thinking exactly this rhythm instead of thinking about pressing one finger at a time. Need to type at high speed.
  • Instead of trying to type one letter at a time, plan for a gesture that kills multiple keys on a roll.
  • Replace common parts of words like "Ion Shadam" and "Ceremony" with rolls so you can start typing individual letters and finish typing the word with the roll.
  • Break the words in the roll and execute the roll. As you roll, prepare your fingers for the next roll because it is easier to think of a roll than individual keys.

17. Configure high speed to follow in monkey type

  • The monkey type has a lot of configuration features so I recommend tinkering to find your preferred style.
  • Arranging 2 carats with different styles is an option; One and the other move at a constant speed for your current position.
  • Configure the second carat to help increase your speed with a custom speed set of 5 and 10 percent faster than your current speed.

 18. Build your vocabulary.

  • Even if there are more than 100,000 words in the English language, less than 1 percent is enough to write 99 percent of the sentences.
  • Make a vocabulary of the most common three to four hundred word words so that you can type them with a muscle-memory gesture and type the rest in sequence.
  • There is a top 1000 typing mode in 10 fast fingers, which allows you to practice the most common words that focus on 50 words at once.
  • Aim for 5 WPM at your current speed and practice each set of 50 words until you reach that goal.
  • Switch to the next set of 50 words after every 5 WPM speed increase to avoid building too much muscle memory for current words.
  • Once you reach your goal with the first three to four hundred words, increase your target to 5 WPM again and repeat from the beginning.

 19. Take a different perspective on your goals

  • These tips take time to develop muscle memory, so be patient.
  • As you make progress, do not feel frustrated. Take several breaks and see how far you are.
  • When you touch the plateau, move your target in a different direction by focusing on a different technique from this article.

 20. Enjoy

Improving your typing can be challenging at times, so I recommend taking a break between sessions with some typing games. Note that some games like ZTYPE can create bad habits so that there will be information about it.
So all this is typing fast. With some practice, you can also surpass 100 WPM.
This article has taken a lot of effort and investigation as I have analyzed many suggestions and methods over the months. If you find it useful, consider sharing.
